Murtle Lake is located in Wells Gray Provincial Park, BC, Canada. It is run by BC Parks under the jurisdiction of the British Columbia Ministry of Environment.
The closest town (Blue River) is 25 km far away. There is only one access – a twisting, rough gravel road. No cell service, pristine wilderness and solitude. Be prepared!
The last section to the lake is a foot-trail portage. The campsites are located around the lake and can only be accessed by canoe (except of campsite #1).
Staying overnight at Murtle Lake requires a permit. Purchase can be made pre-trip via Discover Camping or upon arrival at the Murtle Lake Lagoon. There is a self-registration station near the canoe launch. Method of payment at the Lagoon is cash only. A registration envelope has to be filled out in all cases.
Fees: $5 CAD per person, per night. Children under age 6 are free.
When conditions are favourable and there are no fire bans in effect, campfires are allowed. As a courtesy a small amount of unsplit firewood may be provided.
Please be adviced:You have to use one of BC Parks’ fire rings. Do not build you own fire pit. Do not move the fire rings. No big fires. Before leaving the campsite the fire has to be completely extinguished. Do not leave your campfire unattended. Thank you!
The following rules apply to Murtle Lake, its trails and the parking lot. Non-compliance may result in eviction!
Pack out what you pack in. Take a garbage bag and carry out all garbage.
